Delhi Capitals v Rajasthan Royals: Talking points

Source: IPL

Delhi Capitals continued their winning streak in IPL 2020 with their fifth win in six games, while RR stumbled to their fourth successive loss in the tournament. After a shaky start, DC recovered well to post 184 for 8 on the board, with Jofra Archer picking up 3 for 24. In reply, Kagiso Rabada picked up 3 for 35 as Rajasthan fell short by 46 runs.

Here are the talking points from the game.

The pressure on Shikhar Dhawan increases

The left-handed opener from Delhi has not had the best season this IPL with just 132 runs from six games. He averages just over 22 this year, and what makes it worse is that Dhawan does not have the best strike rate either. He has been striking the ball at just 122.22, which has increased the pressure on the batsman at the other end. Prithvi Shaw, his opening partner, has been in wonderful form, but has often been out while trying to up the ante. Delhi do not have another big-hitting opener on the bench, with the other option Ajinkya Rahane too not being the most fearsome hitter of the ball.

Tewatia’s continues to impress at Sharjah

Rahul Tewatia became a household name after he pulled off a miracle chase against Kings Xi Punjab, and helped his team chase down 224 in 20 overs at Sharjah. He returned to the venue and impressed yet again with both bat and ball. He ended his bowling spell with 1 for 20, which is the best at the venue this IPL. He was also the highest run-scorer in the Rajasthan innings, scoring 38 in 29 deliveries with three fours and two sixes before he was clean bowled by Rabada.

What has happened to Rishabh Pant?

Rishabh Pant has been inconsistent in T20 Internationals but has always made a name for himself in the IPL over the seasons. However, he has looked out of sorts this season, hitting just 5 sixes in six games. The youngster has been pushed to bat at number four for Delhi Capitals this season, and the added responsibility seems to be hampering his batting. In the game against RR, he faced a brain fade moment as he was run out in the tenth over while he was absentmindedly jogging down the pitch to the other end even when there was no run. Marcus Stoinis and the entire DC camp were left bemused as fans wondered why Pant has not yet been able to get going.
