Fastest and youngest: Rashid Khan achieves the feat of 300 T20 wickets

Afghanistan spinner Rashid Khan became the youngest and the fastest bowler to reach the landmark of 300 wickets in T20 cricket when he dismissed his fellow countryman Mohammad Nabi in the CPL 2020 match between St Lucia Zouks and Barbados Tridents on Thursday.

Rashid, who is 21 years and 336 days old now, achieved the feat in a meager timespan of 4 years and 338 days, and he also took the least number of matches (213) to do so.

He is the eighth bowler to reach this landmark after Dwayne Bravo (West Indies), Lasith Malinga (Sri Lanka), Sunil Narine (West Indies), Imran Tahir (South Africa), Shakib Al Hasan (Bangladesh), Sohail Tanvir (Pakistan) and Shahid Afridi (Pakistan).

Not only that, his average of 17.17 and strike-rate of 16.9 are the best among all these bowlers with 300 or more wickets. His economy rate of 6.32 is also the second best after that of Sunil Narine (6.02).

That sums up Rashid’s class as a bowler.

The 21-year-old finished with figures of 2 for 24 in his two overs. The Tridents had posted 131/7 in 18.1 overs before rain interrupted play. As a result, the Zouks were given a target of 47 to chase down within 47 overs.

Rashid Khan tried his best as he got rid of a dangerous Rahkeem Cornwall in his very first over and the second of the Zouks’ innings. However, Mohammad Nabi and Andre Fletcher took the game away from them in his next over. Even though he got Nabi out, Rashid still ended up conceding 17 runs in that over.

In the end, the Zouks chased down the reduced target with seven wickets and five deliveries to spare.
