Rohit Sharma’s Mumbai Indians are the most successful franchise in Indian Premier League with four titles in their name. Their four previous trophies came in 2013, 2015, 2017, and 2019. But in all three occasions when they won the trophy, they failed to defend the title in the next edition of the league. This time they will try to change that fate. They are a strong outfit and should pose a strong challenge for all the teams. However, their record in the UAE phase of 2014 IPL was abysmal as they lost all of their first five matches in the Emirates.

Like always Mumbai Indians have a very strong batting line up and should score lots of runs in favourable conditions. Quinton de Kock, Rohit Sharma, Surya Kumar Yadav, Kieron Pollard, and Hardik Pandya are proven performers in IPL and should continue to deliver. Specially, Pollard looked in great touch in CPL where he led Trinbago Knight Riders to their fourth trophy and remained unbeaten throughout the tournament. His personal form also looked solid and Mumbai might opt to play him at number four regularly. They also roped in Chris Lynn, who was released by Kolkata Knight Riders for 2 Crore. He is an exceptionally good back up option for opener and can be devastating on his day. They also have strong pace bowling attack led by Jashprit Bumrah and includes experienced Dhawal Kulkarni and bunch of overseas pacers like Trent Boult, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Mitchell McClenaghan and James Pattinson.
There are not many options in the spinning department for Mumbai. They have traded Mayank Markhande to Delhi Capitals who finally joined Rajasthan Royals. Now Mumbai’s spinning options are Rahul Chahar, Anukul Roy, and Jayant Yadav along with the all-rounder Krunal Pandya. With none of them except Chahar having significant IPL experience a big part of Mumbai’s success will depend on Chahar’s performance. He had 13 wickets from 13 matches in IPL 2019 and will look to build on that performance.
Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah are generally the most popular picks from Mumbai Indians. However, their foreign recruits Pollard and de Kock are also expected to accumulate lots of points this season. The Pandya brothers are always safe baits thanks to their all-round ability. Among the youngsters, Rahul Chahar should be a key pick for his wicket picking ability.
