A scintillating century from Deandra Dottin and a superb all-round performance from Hayley Matthews helped West Indies beat Pakistan by 45 runs in the first of three-match Women's ODI series in Karachi, on 8 November.

After being put in, Dottin struck a career-best 146-ball 132, with 18 fours and two sixes, to help West Indies reach 253/8. It was her second ODI hundred, bettering her previous best 104 not out, which also came against the Pakistan, in the 2017 Women’s World Cup, at Leicester.

After losing Rashada Williams (15) and Kyshona Knight (3), Dottin added 119 with Matthews (57 in 67 balls) for the third wicket to take West Indies cross 190. Shemaine Campbelle then got a 10-ball 23.

With 5-35, Anam Amin was the pick of the Pakistan bowlers. Her wickets included Dottin, Matthews and Campbelle – the top three run-getters of the West Indies innings. Fatima Sana took two wickets, but conceded 65.

In reply, Pakistan struggled to reach 208/9. Iram Javed (40) and Aliya Riaz (46) failed to convert their starts into anything substantial, while the rest made little impact.

Matthews (3-31) did the most damage for West Indies, while Shakera Selman (2-35) took two early wickets to send Pakistan on the back foot. They never really recovered from there, and in the end, fell 45 runs short of the target.

The two sides will again meet on 11 November, for the second ODI at the same venue.
