The first T20I between West Indies Women and South Africa was abandoned due to heavy rains at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, Antigua.

South Africa posted 135/3 in 20 overs after opting to bat, thanks to Laura Wolvaardt’s quickfire 21-ball 35 not out. Lizelle Lee (30 in 30 balls) and Marizanne Kapp (36 in 43) revived their innings by adding 45 for the second wicket after they lost Dane van Niekerk (15) in the fifth over.

Kapp and Lee were unable to shift gear before they were dismissed in the 14th and 16th overs respectively. Wolvaardt and Tazmin Brits (14* in 11) then shared an unbroken 48-run stand in 29 balls to take South Africa to a competitive total.

For West Indies, Aaliyah Alleyne (0-16) and Qiana Joseph (0-22) bowled tightly, despite not taking wickets. Anisa Mohammed (1-23) and Hayley Matthews (1-27) claimed a wicket each.

Coming to the chase, West Indies got off to a positive start when Deandra Dottin struck Kapp for four in the opening over. But she (4*) had to retire hurt after playing just three balls.

Matthews made a run-a-ball eight before Kapp (1-15) removed him in the third ball. That was the final delivery of the contest, as rain halted the game from there. West Indies were 21/1 in 2.5 overs.

Brief scores: South Africa Women 135/3 in 20 overs (Marizanne Kapp 36; Anisa Mohammed 1-23) vs West Indies Women 21/1 in 2.5 overs (Hayley Matthews 8; Marizanne Kapp 1-15). No result.
