At the Guyana National Stadium on Sunday, Bangladesh defeated the West Indies by six wickets in the first One-Day International of a three-match series despite the rain.
With an unbroken 41-run innings, Mahmudullah led the way for Bangladesh, followed by Nazmul Hossain Shanto with 37 and captain Tamim Iqbal with a quick-fire 33.
The West Indies were restricted to 149 for nine batting first against Bangladesh in the rain-affected first one-day International thanks to Shoriful Islam's finest statistics.
Shoriful's haul of four for 34 with his left-arm seamers made sure the host side were never able to fully recover from early setbacks on a wicket which made free scoring tough in a match limited to 41 overs each side due to a delayed start caused by heavy overnight showers.
With three wickets, including West Indies captain Nicholas Pooran, spinner Mehidy Hasan Miraz contributed to a disciplined bowling effort. Meanwhile, pacer Mustafizur Rahman set the tone for the game by dismissing star opener Shai Hope for a first-ball "duck" after Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal had put the home team in to bat.
Shamarh Brooks scored the most runs (33), with Anderson Phillip coming in second with an unbeaten 19 during their 39-run last-wicket stand (16 not out).
Brandon King and Brooks were both dismissed by Shoriful in his first over, surpassing Mustafizur's feat. He then added the Guyanese spinner Gudakesh Motie and all-rounder Romario Shepherd.
However, he was unable to claim the much-desired fifth wicket of the innings because Bangladesh's fielders missed three opportunities to extend Phillip and Seales' last-wicket stand.
