After a sabbatical of almost four months caused due to the coronavirus pandemic, Cricket South Africa will be hosting a 3TeamCricket charity game on July 18, 2020 at the SuperSport Park at Centurion. In a bid to resume cricket in the country, the CSA has organized the Solidarity Cup, a charity event, that features three teams of eight players each in one game of 36 overs.

24 top cricketers from the country, including AB de Villiers, Faf du Plessis and Quinton de Kock will participate in the event that is being held on Nelson Mandela Day in front of a closed stadium.

What is the 3TC game and what are its rules?

A cricket game of 36 overs will be played into two halves of 18 overs each. In the first half, each side will face 6 overs each from one opponent, while in the second half, they will face 6 overs from the other opponent.

A draw will be held to decide the order of which side will bat, bowl or sit in the pavilion in the first half. In the second half, the the team that scored the most runs in the first half will bat first.

Each bowling team will bowl with a new ball throughout their 12 overs against both rivals, A bowler can send down a maximum of three overs in the game – spread across halves.

After the seventh wicket falls, the last man will be allowed to bat till he is dismissed or the overs run out. However, he can only score fours, sixes or run an even number of runs.

If a side, however, loses all eight wickets in the first half, the last batsman will be asked to resume his innings in the second half, with the remaining overs getting forfeited for the said side in the second innings.

The winner will be decided by the number of runs scored across the game. In case of a tie, the match will be decided by a Super Over.
