Sri Lanka Cricket chief executive Ashley de Silva has confirmed the cancellation of the 2021 Asia Cup due to be held in June, owing to the recent surge in the Covid-19 cases in the nation. The tournament, originally planned to be held in Pakistan last year, was shifted to Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka has imposed a 10-day ban on international travellers. ‘Due to the prevailing situation, it will not be possible to play the tournament in June this year,’ de Silva said.

With a jam-packed international schedule for the next couple of years, the tournament may not take place before the 2023 ICC World Cup. However, there will no dearth of cricketing action in the upcoming summer. Most ICC Full Members have multiple tours lined up in the next couple of months.

Sri Lanka have flown to Bangladesh for three ODIs that will be part of the ODI Super League. The Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka will host all three ODIs. Kusal Perera was appointed as the new skipper, and Kusal Mendis as his deputy in the ODI.
