The first ODI of the three-match series between Australia and India proved to be a high-scoring battle as both sides posted 300+ totals. But it was Australia who won the match by a big margin of 66 runs, as they restricted India to a total of 308/8 after setting up a total of 374/6 on the board. Here we shall take a look at the important numbers and the records that were set in the match.
- Australia’s total of 374/6 was the second-highest total in ODIs between the two sides. The highest was 383/6 by India scored at Bengaluru in 2013.
- Steven Smith’s century off 62 balls was the third-fastest by an Australian in ODIs. Only Glenn Maxwell (51) and James Faulkner (57) have taken fewer deliveries to score a century.
- Smith’s century was also the fastest in his entire ODI career. His previous best came in 89 deliveries in 2015. Incidentally, it was also against India.
- Hardik Pandya registered his fifth 50+ score in ODIs in this match. Interestingly, four out of these five fifties have come against Australia. His knock of 90 also became his highest ODI score and all of his previous three top scores came against Australia once again.

- Aaron Finch and David Warner’s partnership of 156 for the first wicket was the fourth consecutive 80+ opening stand Indian bowlers conceded in ODIs. This is the first time something like this has happened in India’s history of ODI cricket.
- Finch and Warner now have 11-century stands in ODIs — the joint fourth-most for any pair. Only Ganguly-Tendulkar (21), Gilchrist-Hayden (16), Dhawan-Rohit (16), Greenidge-Haynes (15), and Sehwag-Tendulkar (12) have more century stands.
