India’s pride was at stake while coming into the final ODI of the three-match series at Canberra on Wednesday and they played like that as they registered their first win of the tour after encountering heavy losses in the first two ODIs. We got to witness some really good performances in this match and here we shall take a look at some of the key numbers from the encounter.

  • Aaron Finch became only the fourth captain in the history of ODIs to get a 50+ score in all matches of a three-match series. The other three players to achieve the feat were Mohammad Azharuddin (vs Sri Lanka in 1993), Brendan Taylor (vs New Zealand in 2011), and Brendon McCullum (vs England in 2013).
  • The stand of an unbeaten 150 runs between Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja was the best for a sixth-wicket or lower in ODIs in Australia.
  • Hardik Pandya is only the second visiting player with multiple 50+ scores in a bilateral ODI series in Australia while batting at No.6 or below. The first such player was Chris Woakes in 2018.
  • The 13-run loss to India in this match is Australia’s first loss in any format at Canberra.
  • T Natarajan made his debut in this match and also picked up the wicket of Marnus Labuschagne with the 13th ball of his spell. He picked up the wicket of Ashton Agar later on and finished with figures of 2/70 in his quota of 10 overs.
  • Virat Kohli broke Sachin Tendulkar’s record to become the fastest batsman to 12000 ODI runs. Kohli achieved the feat in his 251st ODI match. He is also the only batsman to average over 50 in all three formats at present. This truly is a remarkable achievement by Kohli.
