Due to a right hamstring injury sustained during the first T20I of the five-match series, Australia's Jess Jonassen was declared out for the remainder of the Tour of India on Sunday.
The leg-spinner Amanda-Jade Wellington, who is scheduled to fly into India and connect with the touring group on Tuesday before the third T20I, will take the left-arm spinner's place in Australia's 15-player roster.
On Friday, while playing fielding in Australia's convincing nine-wicket victory at DY Patil Stadium, Jonassen hurt her right hamstring.
"She's since been assessed and it's evident that the timeframes required for a return during this series are too short," Australia team physiotherapist Kate Beerworth said.
"Jess will be unavailable for the remainder of the series and will return to Brisbane to continue her rehab," she added.
The injury is not anticipated to keep Jonassen out of the T20 World Cup in South Africa in February or the ODI and T20I series against Pakistan in January at home.
Jonassen's successor In order to examine their alternatives before the ICC event in South Africa, Australia decided to pack the group with pace-bowling options, leaving Wellington out of the original squad.
The 25-year-old was a member of the Commonwealth Games squad in August but hasn't featured in a T20I since Australia's previous tour of India in 2018. During the 50-over World Cup in New Zealand in March, she also participated in two one-day matches.
Darcie Brown might make an appearance for Australia in Sunday's second T20I at DY Patil Stadium.
The 19-year-old fast bowler missed the initial match because she was unwell and was unable to train after arriving in India. However, immediately following that game, Brown was put to the test on a practise wicket, and she also participated in Saturday's option training session.
