Saurashtra cricketer Avi Barot has passed away of cardiac arrest on Saturday, 16 October. Barot was part of the Saurashtra Ranji Trophy-winning side in 2019, and before that, he also represented Haryana and Gujarat.
'Everyone at Saurashtra Cricket Association (is) deeply shocked and saddened on (the) very shocking, untimely and extremely sad demise of Avi Barot, remarkable and notable cricketer of Saurashtra,' the Saurashtra Cricket Association stated.
Barot was a versatile cricketer who used to bat right-handed, bowl off-spin, and could even don wicketkeeping gloves if needed. He played 38 First-class matches and aggregated 1,547 runs at an average of 48.49.
He played an important role in Saurashtra's Ranji win in 2019, scoring over 300 runs. He also captained India Under-19 side in 2011, and won Cooch Behar Trophy with Gujarat.
Recently, he scored a blistering century against Goa in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. He was also a regular member of the 50-over side.
