An unbeaten 174-run stand between Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Afif Hossain helped Bangladesh beat Afghanistan by four wickets in the first ODI.

Afghanistan squandered the early advantage they gained through the opening burst of Fazalhaq Farooqi, who claimed four wickets in 10 balls.

Farooqi's first wicket came when Liton Das, while attempting a cut, edged behind the stumps. A ball later, he got Tamim Iqbal, for 8. In his next over, he got Mushfiqur Rahim and Yasir Ali. Bangladesh were 18/4 at this stage, which soon became 28/5 when Mujeeb Ur Rahman bowled Shakib Al Hasan.

Afif and Miraz then batted for over 35 overs without being separated to guide Bangladesh to an unlikely win. Miraz reached his second ODI fifty with a four off Yamin Ahmadzai, in the 36th over. Afif remained unbeaten on 93, while Miraz made 81 in 120 balls.

Earlier, an 84-ball 67 from Najibullah Zadran helped Afghanistan reach 215 in 49.1 overs. Rahmat Shah scored 34, but none of their teammates provided support.

For Bangladesh, Mustafizur Rahman dismissed Rahmanullah Gurbaz in his second over, and picked two more wickets in death overs. Taskin Ahmed, Shakib, and Shoriful Islam claimed two wickets each.

Afghanistan 215 in 49.1 overs (Najibullah Zadran 67; Mustafizur Rahman 3-35) lost to Bangladesh 219/6 in 48.5 overs (Afif Hossain 93; Fazalhaq Farooqi 4-54) by 4 wickets with 7 balls to spare. Player of the Match: Mehidy Hasan Miraz.
