Pakistan were lifted by an unbeaten 91-run stand between Azhar Ali and Babar Azam after they lost their openers in quick succession. They finished Day 1 at Mirpur on 161/2.
Babar struck seven fours and a six for his 60, while Azhar is on 36. Unlike Azhar, who had a shaky start, Babar looked at ease against the spinners and fast bowlers alike throughout his innings.
The third session of Day 1 was abandoned due to bad light. Gloomy weather, accompanied by intermittent rain, will continue to influence the proceedings over the next four days.
Khaled Ahmed and Ebadot Hossain were far from impressive. They constantly struggled to get the right line and length. They were perhaps carried away by the overcast conditions. Bangladesh will expect more consistency from them.
Taijul Islam and Shakib Al Hasan hold the key for the hosts. They were brilliant on the first day, and will look to continue with the same rhythm on Day 2.
