Melbourne Renegades defeated Adelaide Strikers by 2 runs to kickstart their BBL 2021 campaign with a win. With nine runs needed off the last over, James Pattinson conceded just six as the Renegades defended 153/9.

Zahir Khan was adjudged Player of the Match for his three wickets. Zahir got both openers, Matthew Short and Jake Weatherald, after they got the Strikers off to a flying start. Daniel Drew remained unbeaten on 23 but could not take his team across the target. 

Other than Zahir Khan, Will Sutherland claimed two wickets.

Earlier, the Renegades were lifted by a 46-ball 56 from Mackenzie Harvey. Sam Harper scored 33 for them. For the Strikers, Peter Siddle claimed three wickets, while George Garton and Daniel Worrall claimed two each.

Melbourne Renegades 153/9 (Harvey 56, Siddle 3-42) beat Adelaide Strikers 151/8 (Nielsen 30, Zahir 3-24) by 2 runs. Player of the Match: Zahir Khan.
