Matthew Wade’s unbeaten 54-ball 83, Riley Meredith’s 3-29 and Jordan Thompson’s 3-24 helped Hobart Hurricanes beat Sydney Thunder by nine runs in Match 45 of the Big Bash League 2021/22 in Melbourne. The Hurricanes scored 177/6 and restricted the Thunder to 168/9 to end the latter’s six-match winning streak.

Alex Hales top-scored for the Thunder, with a 17-ball 38, while Nathan McAndrew made a 20-ball 30 and Jason Sangha a 19-ball 31. Sandeep Lamichhane returned 2-26.

Melbourne Renegades v Melbourne Stars

Melbourne Renegades 122/7 in 20 overs (Finch 45; Qais 2-15) lost to Melbourne Stars 123/4 in 14.3 overs (Maxwell 68*; Richardson 1-12) by 6 wickets with 33 balls to spare. Player of the Match: Glenn Maxwell.

Melbourne Stars beat Melbourne Renegades by six wickets in Match 46 of the competition. They restricted the Renegades to 122/7 and reached the target with 33 balls to spare.

Aaron Finch, at No. 5, scored 45 and Jake Fraser-McGurk 32, but both struggled to get going. The others could not even touch double digits. Then Glenn Maxwell (68* in 45 balls) almost single-handedly took the game away from the Renegades. Josh Lalor, Zahir Khan, Kane Richardson and Cameron Boyce took a wicket each.
