Sydney Sixers v Brisbane Heat

Sydney Sixers 178/6 in 20 overs (Hughes 59; Neser 3-39) beat Brisbane Heat 151/8 in 20 overs (Bryant 57; Kerr 3-23) by 27 runs. Player of the Match: Daniel Hughes.

Brisbane Heat ended their Big Bash League 2021/22 campaign with a sixth straight defeat, against Sydney Sixers in Match 54 of the competition. They managed to post only 151/8 after the Sixers set them 179.

Daniel Hughes was adjudged Player of the Match for his 45-ball 59. Max Bryant top-scored for the Heat with 57, but he took 55 balls, while Jimmy Peirson made a 23-ball 42. Hayden Kerr (3-23) and Ben Dwarshuis (2-36) shared five wickets.

Sydney Thunder v Melbourne Renegades

Sydney Thunder 170/8 in 20 overs (Khawaja 77; Boyce 5-21) beat Melbourne Renegades 169/7 in 20 overs (Finch 82; Sandhu 3-33) by 1 run. Player of the Match: Cameron Boyce.

Cameron Boyce of the Melbourne Renegades became the first player in BBL to take four wickets in four balls, but his team still suffered a one-run defeat against Sydney Thunder in Match 55.

The Thunder rode on Usman Khawaja’s 51-ball 77 and Alex Hales’ 22-ball 44 to post 170/8 after being asked to bat. Aaron Finch then hit 64-ball 82 to keep the Renegades in hunt, but could not take his side past the finishing line. For the Thunder, Gurinder Sandhu returned 3-33 and Tanveer Sangha 2-32.

Melbourne Stars v Hobart Hurricanes

Melbourne Stars 273/2 in 20 overs (Maxwell 154*; Thompson 1-32) beat Hobart Hurricanes 167/6 in 20 overs (McDermott 55; Couch 3-30) by 106 runs. Player of the Match: Glenn Maxwell.

Glenn Maxwell slammed an unbeaten unbeaten 64-ball 154 with 22 fours and four sixes, the highest score in BBL history, to help Melbourne Stars beat Hobart Hurricanes by 106 runs in Match 56. The Stars piled 273/2 – the third-highest team total in Men’s T20s – after Matthew Wade asked them to bat. They then restricted the Hurricanes to 167/6.

Maxwell added an unbroken 132 with Marcus Stoinis (75* in 32 balls) to take the Stars to the gigantic total as no Hurricanes bowler conceded under 10 an over. Ben McDermott (55 in 33) and D'Arcy Short (41*) tried, but the chase was never on the cards. With 3-30, Brody Couch was the pick of the Stars bowlers.
