Fortune Barishal beat Comilla Victorians by 10 runs to become the first finalist of the Bangladesh Premier League 2022. The Victorians could only manage 133/7 while chasing 144.
Coming to defend 17 in the last over, Mujeeb Ur Rahman got rid of Mahidul Islam with the first ball. Sunil Narine struck a six over long on to bring down the equation to 11 from 3, but Mujeeb bowled a dot, then induced an edge to dismiss Narine and seal the game.
Earlier in the innings, Mahmudul Hasan Joy and Liton Das got the Victorians off to a measured start, adding 62 over 10 overs, but they lost three wickets in six balls to slip to 68/3. Shafiqul Islam bowled Das for 38 and had Imrul Kayes as well, caught by Chris Gayle.
Faf du Plessis and Moeen Ali hit a flurry of boundaries to put pressure back on the opponents. At one point it seemed they would it off with ease, but the latter got bowled by Dwayne Bravo on 22. Du Plessis (21) then fell to Mehedi Hasan Rana, and the Victorians could not manage 20 runs in the next 1.3 overs.
For Barishal, Munim Shahriar top-scored with 44, and forged a 58-run opening stand with Gayle (22). Shakib Al Hasan was run out for 1, while Bravo and Ziaur Rahman scored 17 each. Shohidul Islam took three wickets, and Moeen two, for Barishal.
