Regis Chakabva, a wicketkeeper and batter, will captain Zimbabwe against India in the ODI series, which gets underway on August 18 at Harare Sports Club.

Zimbabwe and India will play three one-day international matches in the series, which is a part of the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup Super League, on August 18, 20, and 22.

In place of normal captain Craig Ervine, who is still recovering from a left hamstring strain, Chakabva will lead the home team.

The top-order batsman/wicketkeeper led Zimbabwe to a winning 2-0 series lead over Bangladesh last Sunday in an ODI before suffering a sprained hand that prevented him from playing in the last match, which Zimbabwe lost.

In the just finished ODI series against Bangladesh, which Zimbabwe won 2-1, Chakabva, who made his Zimbabwean debut in 2008, took the helm for the first time. Additionally, he helped the hosts win the series with a game-winning 102 in the second ODI.

Sikandar Raza, a senior all-rounder, was named the Man of the Series for his 252 runs and five wickets in the third and final ODI against Bangladesh. Chakabva was unable to play because of a hand sprain.

Zimbabwe will go into their match with India with a good feeling after winning the 2-1 ODI and Twenty20 series against Bangladesh this month.

Zimbabwe will also be without Blessing Muzarabani, Tendai Chatara and Wellington Masakadza who are recuperating from thigh muscle tear, collarbone fracture and shoulder tendon injuries respectively.

All the matches will start at 1 pm IST time.
