All six teams from Division 1 were in action in County Championship 2021, on Monday, 30 August.

Hampshire v Yorkshire, Southampton

Yorkshire 197/6 (Bess 45*; Abbott 3-46) vs Hampshire

Yorkshire reached 197/6 against Hampshire after Day 1 in Southampton.

Kyle Abbott (3-46) pinned Adam Lyth (6) leg before in the 10th over after he won the toss and asked Yorkshire to bat. George Hill (31) and Tom Kohler-Cadmore (20) added 47 at a slow pace before Abbott returned and removed them both.

Harry Brook (14) did not last long as Yorkshire became 114/4 at one point. Gary Ballance showed composure, but fell eight runs short of his fifty. Dom Bess (45*) and Jordan Thompson (15*) added 38 before the play ended four overs early because of bad light.

Lancashire v Warwickshire, Old Trafford

Warwickshire 259/3 (Benjamin 127*; Bailey 2-50) vs Lancashire

Chris Benjamin brought up his maiden hundred for Warwickshire against Lancashire at Old Trafford in Manchester. He shared a 237-run stand with Sam Hain, who remained unbeaten on 113. Riding on this partnership, Warwickshire finished Day 1 on 259/3.

Earlier, Warwickshire were reduced to 7/2 after Tom Bailey got Robert Yates (4) and Dom Sibley (3) in successive overs. Benjamin and Hain took charge from there. Saqib Mahmood finally broke the partnership by removing Benjamin with the second new ball, in the 82nd over.

Will Rhodes and Hain then batted the final five overs to ensure no further damage was done.

Somerset v Nottinghamshire, Taunton

Nottinghamshire 282/6 (Clarke 59; Abell 2-53) vs Somerset

Nottinghamshire closed Day 1 on 282/6 against Somerset in Taunton. They lost Ben Slater (3) early to Jack Brooks (2-62) after Tom Abell won the toss and asked them to bat.
