All six teams from Division 1 were in action in County Championship 2021, on Tuesday, 31 August.

Hampshire v Yorkshire, Southampton

Yorkshire 243 (Bess 54; Abbott 3-47) and 34/1 (Kohler-Cadmore 16*; Wheal 1-16) lead Hampshire 163 (Vince 49; Coad 3-29) by 114 runs.

Yorkshire took an 80-run first-innings lead against Hampshire before reaching 34/1 in the second innings at Day 2 stumps, in Southampton.

They began the day on 197/6. Dom Bess (54) brought up his fifty to take them to 243. Kyle Abbott (3-47) and Bradley Wheal (3-47) claimed three wickets each.

In reply, Hampshire were reduced to 16/3. James Vince (49) and Tom Alsop (12 in 96 balls) revived from there by adding 70 for the fourth wicket before Matthew Fisher (2-28) removed Vince. They slipped to 123/9 after that, before Abbott and Wheal chipped in useful contributions, adding 40 for the last wicket. Hampshire were bowled out for 163.

Yorkshire then extended their lead to 114 at the close of play, with George Hill (10*) and Tom Kohler-Cadmore (16*) still at the crease.

Lancashire v Warwickshire, Old Trafford

Warwickshire 371 (Benjamin 127; Mahmood 4-77) lead Lancashire 100/1 (Bohannon 59*; Norwell 1-14) by 271 runs.

Josh Bohannon remained unbeaten on 59 at stumps on Day 2 to help Lancashire reach 100/1 after Warwickshire’s 371 at Old Trafford, Manchester. Bohannon was ably assisted by Luke Wells (35*) after they lost George Balderson for a seven-ball duck.

Warwickshire resumed on 259/3, and Tom Bailey (3-53) pinned Sam Hain (118) early. Their last seven wickets fell for 112 runs. Saqib Mahmood returned 4-77.

Somerset v Nottinghamshire, Taunton

Nottinghamshire 448 (Patterson-White 101; Abell 3-84) lead Somerset 87/7 (Abell 35; Fletcher 4-21) by 361 runs.

Nottinghamshire were in total control after Day 2 against Somerset in Taunton. They resumed on 282/6. Liam Patterson-White’s (101) maiden first-class hundred and Luke Fletcher's 51 then helped them to post 448. For Somerset, Tom Abell returned 3-84 and Jack Brooks 2-94.

Luke Fletcher (4-21) took the first four Somerset wickets to reduce them to 68/4. Dane Paterson (2-34) and Brett Hutton (1-30) took the next three before they struggled to reach 87/7 at stumps. They still trail by 361 runs.
