All six teams from Division 3 were in action in County Championship 2021, on Monday, 30 August.

Worcestershire v Sussex, New Road

Sussex 254/9 (Carson 81*; Leach 4-67) vs Worcestershire

Sussex closed Day 1 on 254/9 against Worcestershire at New Road.

Sussex included six uncapped teenagers in their playing XI. Opting to bat, Ali Orr made 52, but did not get much support. They slipped to 97/6 before Jack Carson struck a career-best 81 not out to take his side to a respectable total.

With 4-67, Joe Leach was the pick of the Worcestershire bowlers, while Adam Finch claimed 2-32.

Middlesex v Derbyshire, Lord’s

Middlesex 218/5 (White 101*; Conners 2-53) vs Derbyshire

Only 68 overs were bowled on Day 1 of the County Championship fixture between Middlesex and Derbyshire at Lord’s before on-field umpires called off early due to bad light.

Middlesex reached 218/5, thanks to Robbie White’s (101*) maiden first-class hundred. White was ably assisted by Martin Andersson (53) after Middlesex were reduced to 14/3, and then 52/4. White is still in the middle, with John Simpson (29*).

For Derbyshire, Samuel Conners (2-53) and Luis Reece (2-62) picked up two wickets each, while Alex Thomson (1-13) had one to his name.

Leicestershire v Kent, Grace Road

Kent 232 (Leaning 75*; Parkinson 4-68) lead Leicestershire 66/5 (Azad 18; Stewart 2-10) by 166 runs.

A total of 15 wickets fell on Day 1 of the Leicestershire versus Kent fixture at Grace Road.

Opting to bat, Kent were left reeling on 116/7 despite Zak Crawley’s 50. Jack Leaning (75*) revived them from there, and stayed till the end to take his side to 232. Callum Parkinson (4-68) and Chris Wright (3-59) did the most damage for Leicestershire.

From 31/1, Leicestershire were then reduced to 33/4, and then 47/5. Louis Kimber (13*) and Ben Mike (14*) batted the final few overs to finish the day on 66/5. They still trail by 166 runs.
