All six teams of the Group 1 were in action in the sixth round of the County Championship 2021-22.

Essex v Warwickshire, Chelmsford

Warwickshire 166 (Bresnan 50; Siddle 6-38) and 0/0 trail Essex 217 (Cook 57; Rhodes 3-21) by 51 runs

Resuming on 16/1, Essex secured a 51-run lead following half-centuries from Alastair Cook and Ryan ten Doeschate before Simon Harmer added a valuable 40 runs to take his team to 217.

Cook went on about his business without stutters as wickets kept falling at the other end. Tom Westley, Dan Lawrence, Paul Walter and Adam Wheater all failed, and Essex were reduced to 126/6.

Derbyshire v Durham, Derby

Derbyshire 258 (Critchley 49, Rushworth 6-49) lead Durham 20/2 ( Bancroft 9*; Aitchison 2-3) by 238 runs

Only 17 overs of play was possible on the first two days of the match, but the weather was kinder on Day 3 of the fixture between Derbyshire and Durham.

Derbyshire failed to build on a decent start provided by openers Brooke Guest and Billy Godleman, as Chris Rushworth’s six-for skittled them out for 238 runs.

Wayne Madsen and Matthew Critchley held the innings together after Derbyshire lost three wickets for just one run. Critchley fell one shy of his half-century. Madsen scored 42 before getting nailed on the pad by Brydon Carse.

In reply, Durham lost two early wickets before Cameron Bancroft and the skipper Scott Borthwick ensured no further damage by the stumps on Day 3.

Nottinghamshire v Worcestershire, Chelmsford

Nottinghamshire 400/5 decl. (Duckett 177*; Pennington 2-66) lead Worcestershire 53/6 (Haynes 14; Fletcher 5-20) trails trails by 347 runs

Luke Fletcher (5-20) ran through Worcestershire late in the day before they were worn out by Ben Duckett’s five-hour marathon. En-route to his unbeaten 177, Duckett forged solid partnerships of 205 (with Lyndon James) and 143 (with Steve Mullaney). Nottinghamshire declared their innings on 400/5.

Worcestershire are 53/6 with a day’s cricket left.
