All six teams of Group 1 were in action on Day 4 in the sixth round of the County Championship 2021. Let us have a look at how it went for them.

Essex v Warwickshire, Chelmsford

Warwickshire 166 (Bresnan 50; Siddle 6-38) and 66/1 (Briggs 37; S Cook 1-7) drew with Essex 217 (A Cook 57; Rhodes 3-21)

The contest between Essex and Warwickshire ended in a draw with only 23 overs possible on rain-infected Day 4 at Chelmsford. Warwickshire resumed trailing by 51. Openers Danny Briggs (37) and Will Rhodes (22*) left unharmed at lunch, with 63/0.

Four balls after the restart, Briggs hit Sam Cook straight to Dan Lawrence. Rain arrived two overs later, and following that, bad light drew the curtains to the game at 16.30 local time.

Derbyshire v Durham, Derby

Derbyshire 258 (Critchley 49, Rushworth 6-49) drew with Durham 218 ( Eckersley 82; Aitchison 6-28)

Like Essex versus Warwickshire, the encounter between Derbyshire and Durham ended with a predictable draw. On the rain-interrupted Day 4, Derbyshire bowled 52 overs.

Durham resumed at 20/2. Seamer Ben Aitchison then returned his career-best figures of 6-28 to restrict Durham to 218. Leg-spinner Matthew Critchley claimed three wickets, while Samuel Conners had one to his name. For Durham, Ned Eckersley top-scored with 82.

After that, the play was called off early before the introduction of the second innings.

Nottinghamshire v Worcestershire, Chelmsford

Nottinghamshire 400/5 decl. (Duckett 177*; Pennington 2-66) beat Worcestershire 80 (Cox 19; Fletcher 7-37) and 150 (Libby 64; Paterson 4-49) by an innings and 170 runs

The Nottinghamshire bowlers picked up 14 wickets on the final day to beat Worcestershire by an innings and 170 runs. Resuming at 53/6, Worcestershire were bowled out for 80, largely due to Luke Fletcher’s career-best figure of 7-37.

With a lead of 320 runs, Notts skipper Steven Mullaney then enforced the follow-on. Worcestershire were then bundled out for 150. Apart from Jake Libby (64) and Brett D’Oliveira (31), no Worcestershire batter scored in excess of 15.

Fletcher completed his ten-wicket haul in the match with 3-20, while Dane Paterson and Stuart Broad had four and two scalps respectively.
