Four out of six teams from Group 2 were supposed to be in action on Day 1 of the sixth round of the County Championship. Let us have a look at how it went for them.

Middlesex vs Hampshire, Lord’s

Middlesex 90/4 (Davies 24; Abbott 3-21) vs Hampshire

Kyle Abbott picked up 3-21 to reduce Middlesex to 90/4 in the rain-interrupted opening day at Lord’s. There were only 36 overs of play. Bradley Wheal picked up the other wicket, of Jack Davies (24).

Middlesex were 56/4 one stage after Davies, skipper Peter Handscomb and Robbie White (3) departed in quick time. However, an unbeaten 34-run stand for the fifth wicket between Nick Gubbins (21*) and Josh Simpson (20*) came to their rescue.

Somerset vs Surrey, Taunton

The opening day of the match between Somerset and Surrey ended without a ball being bowled due to rain. The play was abandoned at 14.30 local time.

Somerset are currently at second place in Group 2, with four wins out of five games. Surrey, on the other hand, are at fourth, with one victory, two draws and two defeats.
