Four out of six teams of Group 3 were in action in the sixth round of the County Championship 2021-22. Let us have a look at how it went for them.

Northamptonshire vs Lancashire, Northampton

Lancashire 59/0 (Davies 34*) vs Northamptonshire

Day 2 of the match between Lancashire and Northamptonshire was abandoned without a single ball being bowled. After heavy rainfall since the morning, the day’s play was called off at 14.30 local time.

Earlier, on Day 1, Lancashire openers Keaton Jennings (23*) and Alex Davies (34*) batted only 16.5 overs after the majority of the play washed out.

Kent vs Glamorgan, Canterbury

Kent 307 (Stevens 190; van der Gugten 4-34) lead Glamorgan 55/2 (Billy 22*; Quinn 1-9) by 252 runs

At 45, Darren Stevens is in the form of his life. Earlier this month, he was named a Wisden Cricketer of the Year – the oldest cricketer to be thus honoured since Ewart Astill in 1933.

Here, on Day 2 of Kent’s County Championship match against Glamorgan at Canterbury, he smashed 190 off 149 deliveries, with 15 fours and 15 sixes. He added 166 for the ninth wicket with Miguel Cummins, out of which Cummins contributed with a solitary run, while there were five extras. Stevens’s contribution, 160 out of 166, was a whopping 96.4% – the highest in any partnership in excess of 150 in the history of First-class cricket.

Both men fell to Marnus Labuschagne (2-27). Seamers Michael Neser (4-67) and Timm van der Gugten (4-34) had claimed four wickets apiece before Steven’s onslaught.

In reply, Glamorgan finished at 55/2 before bad light stopped play. Opener Joe Cook (10*) and Billy Root (22*) are in middle. Before that, Stevens had his revenge when he trapped Labuschagne leg-before.
