All six teams from Group 3 were in action on Day 2 of the fifth round of the County Championship. Let us have a look at how it went for them.

Lancashire v Glamorgan, Old Trafford

Glamorgan 344 (Lloyd 78; Anderson 3-40) lead Lancashire 22/0 (Davies 14*) by 322 runs

Callum Taylor (58) and Daniel Douthwaite (61) added 81 runs for the seventh wicket to help Glamorgan post 344. James Anderson and Saqib Mahmood claimed three wickets each, while Luke Wood has had a couple to his name.

In reply, Lancashire openers Keaton Jennings (8) and Alex Davies (14) remained unharmed until stumps. They batted 18 overs and posted 22 runs on board.

Northamptonshire v Sussex, Northampton

Sussex 106 (Robinson 49*; Berg 5-18, Sanderson 5-28) and 154/4 (Van Zyl 71*; Berg 2-40) trail Northamptonshire 441/9 d (Zaib 135; Robinson 5-58) by 181 runs

Resuming on 214/5 on Day 2, Northamptonshire declared at 441/9. Saif Zaib (135) and captain Adam Rossington (87) forged 198 runs for the sixth wicket. Ollie Robinson finished with 5-58.

Ben Sanderson and Gareth Berg, who picked up five wickets each to bundle out Sussex for 106 in the first innings, once again ripped their opponent’s top order into pieces. However, Stiaan van Zyl held the fort from one end, for 71. Alongside Ben Brown (30*), the pair added an 86-run stand before stumps.

Yorkshire v Kent, Headingley

Kent 305 (Crawley 90; Coad 3-53) lead Yorkshire 240/5 (Ballance 91*; Gilchrist 2-49) by 65 runs

Marcus O’Riordan’s valiant 40-run knock at the late end helped Kent post 305. Ben Coad had three wickets to his name, while Jordan Thompson and Steven Patterson got two apiece.

Yorkshire made a remarkable comeback after their two openers Adam Lyth (23) and Tom Kohler-Cadmore (14), fell early. Gary Ballance and Joe Root (41) put on 83 runs for the third wicket before the latter edged to Oliver Robinson’s gloves. Harry Brook, too brought his half-century and added century-run stand after Root’s departure.

At stumps, Ballance was nine runs short of a hundred. Yorkshire finished at 240/5.
