County Championship 2021: Points Table after 30 May Image

Six teams from Group 1, four from Group 2 and Group 3, were in action last week of the County Championship 2021-22. Let’s look at the movements in the points table for each group:

Group 1

Essex jumped to the top of the points table with a comprehensive 195-run victory over Durham. Nottinghamshire slipped to the second position after suffering a heavy defeat to Warwickshire. There’s a minute gap between teams in the top three of Group 1. Yet to register a victory in County Championship 2021-22, Derbyshire languish at the bottom.

Group 2

Despite an innings-and-47-run defeat to Surrey, Gloucestershire has retained the top spot, followed by Somerset. Gloucestershire and Somerset have identical records: four wins, one defeat, two draws. Surrey, with 101 points, is at third place, but they have played a match more. Leicestershire has jumped one place to the fifth after a five-wicket victory over Middlesex.

Group 3

A victory in the Battle of Roses helped Lancashire retain the top slot by some distance. Yorkshire, at second place, have 24 fewer than their traditional rival. In another battle, Northamptonshire prevailed over Sussex and are at third place. Sussex, meanwhile, having won only one game in seven attempts, find themselves at fifth.
