Division 1

Yorkshire v Somerset, Scarborough

Somerset 134 (Hildreth 24; Fisher 5-41) trail Yorkshire 159/5 (Brook 79*; Davey 3-41) by 25 runs.

Matt Fisher returned a career-best 5-41 to put Yorkshire on top on Day 1 in Scarborough. He was ably assisted by Jordan Thompson and George Hill to bowl out Somerset for a paltry 134 after they opted to bat. Azhar Ali and James Hildreth scored 24 each.

In reply, Yorkshire lost Adam Lyth for nought. They were 51/3 at one point, but Harry Brook revived them, and guided them to 159/5 at stumps. They now lead by 25.

Nottinghamshire v Lancashire, Trent Bridge

Nottinghamshire 272 (Northeast 65; Bailey 4-48) lead Lancashire 28/2 (Balderson 19*; Hutton 2-8) by 244 runs.

Nottinghamshire slipped from a commanding position against Lancashire on Day 1 at Trent Bridge.

Notts were 211/3 at one stage after being put in, thanks to useful contributions from Ben Duckett (59), Sam Northeast (65) and Joe Clarke (54). Tom Bailey (4-48) and Danny Lamb (4-60) then triggered a collapse, and bowled them out for 272.

Coming to bat, Lancashire lost both Alex Davies and Luke Wells (8) to Brett Hutton (2-8) before closing on 28/2.

Warwickshire v Hampshire, Edgbaston

Hampshire 89 (Holland 28; Rhodes 5-23) and 41/0 (Holland 18*) lead Warwickshire 116 (Hain 41; Abbas 5-29) by 14 runs.

A total of 20 wickets fell on Day 1 of the County Championship fixture between Warwickshire and Hampshire at Edgbaston.

Will Rhodes returned 5-23 to blow away Hampshire for just 89 after he asked them to bat. Ian Holland top-scored in this total with 28.

Mohammad Abbas and Keith Barker then claimed five wickets apiece to shoot Warwickshire out for 116. Hampshire reached 41/0 in the second innings at stumps, with a lead of 14 runs.

Division 2

Durham v Glamorgan, Chester-le-Street

Glamorgan 97 (Rutherford 43; Coughlin 4-11) trail Durham 223/3 (Jones 81; Van der Gugten 2-46) by 126 runs.

Glamorgan posted their lowest ever total in the County Championship history against Durham at Chester-le-Street.

Glamorgan were 63/1 at one point after Hamish Rutherford’s run-a-ball 43, but they skittled out for 97, courtesy some brilliant bowling from Ben Raine, Paul Coughlin, and Chris Rushworth.

Alex Lees and Michael Jones then added 119 for the opening wicket to put Durham on top, while David Bedingham’s 44 not out helped them reach 222/3 at stumps. They now lead by 126.

Essex v Gloucestershire, Chelmsford

Gloucestershire 76 (Higgins 25; Porter 4-32) trail Essex 150/5 (Walter 71*; Payne 2-42) by 74 runs.

Essex are in the driver’s seat after Day 1 against Gloucestershire in Chelmsford.

James Porter and Samuel Cook ran through Gloucestershire to reduce them to 47/7. Ryan Higgins resisted with 25, but they were still bowled out for 76 in 28 overs.

Essex slumped to 75/5 at one point, but Paul Walter and Adam Wheater revived them from there, adding an unbroken 75 to help them reach 150/5 before the close of play.

Northamptonshire v Surrey, Northampton

Surrey 252 (Smith 123; Taylor 5-41) lead Northamptonshire 7/0 (Vasconcelos 4*) by 245 runs.

Northamptonshire reached 7/0 after bowling out Surrey for 252 on Day 1 in Northampton.

Jamie Smith and Will Jacks recovered Surrey from 61/4 after Hashim Amla opted to bat. They added 145 for the fifth wicket, where Jacks contributed with 60. Smith was still unmoved after Jack’s departure and scored 123 to help his side post a respectable total. Tom Taylor returned 5-41, and Ben Sanderson 4-32.

Northants’ Ricardo Vasconcelos and Emilio Gay saw out the final three overs of the day, and reduced the first-inning lead to 245.

Division 3

Derbyshire v Leicestershire, Derby

Leicestershire 282/3 (Evans 82; Aitchison 1-46) vs Derbyshire

Leicestershire reached 282/3 against Derbyshire after Day 1 in Derby.

After losing Hasan Azad for 25, Samuel Evans (82) and Lewis Hill (54) added 75 for the second wicket to take Leicestershire to 127. George Rhodes and Evans then shared another 139-run stand before the latter fell to Edwin Moulton in the 92nd over. Rhodes is still in there, on 86 not out.

Kent v Worcestershire, Canterbury

Worcestershire 133 (Cox 41*; Gilchrist 5-38) trail Kent 184/4 (Stevens 56*; Pennington 3-39) by 51 runs.

Kent have taken a 51-run lead in the first innings against Worcestershire at Canterbury.

Nathan Gilchrist and Matt Milnes shared nine wickets to bowl out Worcestershire for 133 after Zak Crawley won the toss and asked them to bat. With 41 not out, Ben Cox top-scored in this total.

Kent slipped to 22/3 early, courtesy Dillon Pennington. Jack Leaning, Oliver Robinson, and Darren Stevens all made fifties to help their side recover from there. They closed on 184/4, with Stevens and Leaning still at the crease.
