Sherfane Rutherford struck an unbeaten 34-ball 59 to help St Kitts and Nevis Patriots register back-to-back wins over Guyana Amazon Warriors in successive days in the Caribbean Premier League 2021 at Warner Park.

Chasing 167, Rutherford smashed just a four and six sixes in his blistering knock to help St Kitts reach the target with four balls to spare.

Earlier, Guyana promoted Mohammad Hafeez at the top to open with Chandrapaul Hemraj after Nicholas Pooran won the toss and opted to bat. The plan worked, as they added 47 in 39 balls before Fabian Allen (1-31) removed Hemraj (14) in the seventh over.

Hafeez and Shimron Hetmyer carried the momentum from there. The latter was more aggressive in their 101-run second-wicket stand. Then Paul van Meekeren (2-23) got them in successive deliveries in the 18th over. Guyana only managed 29 from the final four overs, as they finished on 166/3.

Bravo (0-38), Fawad Ahmed (0-17), and Dominic Drakes (0-32) were all expensive, conceding more than eight runs an over, while Jon-Russ Jaggesar (0-18) bowled three tight overs in the Powerplay. All of them remained wicketless.

Coming to the chase, Devon Thomas (31) and Evin Lewis (30) got St Kitts off to a decent start. Imran Tahir (2-26) and Odean Smith (1-30) then picked up three wickets in three overs to bring Guyana back to the contest.

St Kitts were 77/3 in 10.5 overs, but Rutherford and Bravo (22) exhibited resilience under pressure. They stitched a 72-run stand in 46 balls to take their side on the driver’s seat before Allen (4*) hit the winning boundary in the final over.

Brief scores: Guyana Amazon Warriors 166/3 in 20 overs (Hafeez 70; van Meekeren 2-23) lost to St Kitts and Nevis Patriots 168/4 in 19.2 overs (Rutherford 59*; Tahir 2-26) by 6 wickets with 4 balls to spare. Player of the Match: Sherfane Rutherford.
