Sri Lanka trail by three runs against West Indies

Sri Lanka were 46/2 in their second innings at Day 3 stumps of the second Test match after bowling out West Indies for 253 in Galle. They currently trail by 3 runs. Sri Lanka were on the back foot after being all out for 204 in their first innings, but Ramesh Mendis’ 6-70 brought them back into the game.

Resuming the day on 69/1, Kraigg Brathwaite (72) and Nkrumah Bonner batted sensibly to reduce the deficit of the first innings. But once they fell, West Indies collapsed from 166/2 to 253. Lasith Embuldeniya and Praveen Jayawickrama took two wickets apiece.

Tait resigns as Afghanistan fast-bowling consultant

Shaun Tait has stepped down as Afghanistan’s fast-bowling consultant ‘with immediate effect’. He was signed up by the ACB in this August for five months, until the end of 2021, but he followed suit a day after head coach Lance Klusener announced his decision to not extend his contract.

‘I have enjoyed my time working with the team especially with the young Afghan fast bowlers whom I personally think have a great future. Having access to a great cricketing mind like Lance Klusener (head coach of Afghanistan during my tenure) has been an absolute pleasure,’ said Tait.

Glazer, Man Utd owner, buys cricket franchise

Manchester United co-chair Avram Glazer bought a franchise in the new United Arab Emirates T20 league through his private equity firm Lancer Capital. The inaugural UAE T20 league, comprising six teams, is scheduled in February and March. A total of 34 matches will be played in the tournament.

‘I am very excited to be a part of UAE T20 at its formation,’ said Glazer.

Flower, Bayliss quit from PBKS, SRH

Sunrisers Hyderabad coach Trevor Bayliss and Punjab Kings coach Andy Flower have resigned from their respective positions ahead of IPL 2022, both franchises confirmed.

Flower joined Punjab ahead of the 2020 edition as a head coach, along with team director Anil Kumble. Bayliss, who previously coached Kolkata Knight Riders to IPL titles in 2012 and 2014, had taken over Hyderabad after helping England win the 2019 World Cup.
