Bumrah, Rohit named in Wisden's five Cricketers of Year

Wisden named Jasprit Bumrah, Rohit Sharma, Dane van Niekerk, Ollie Robinson, and Devon Conway as their five Cricketers of the Year, and Joe Root and Lizelle Lee as the Leading Cricketers of the Year.

'Root rose above the struggles of England's Test side to produce one of the all-time great performances in a calendar year. His 1,708 runs have been beaten only by Mohammad Yousuf in 2006 and Viv Richards in 1976, and included six hundreds. And he scored his runs in his fifth year as England captain, at which point many of his predecessors had already called it a day,' wrote Lawrence Booth, Editor of the Wisden Almanac.

Chennai replace Milne with Pathirana

Chennai Super Kings roped in Matheesha Pathirana as replacement for the injured Adam Milne for the rest of IPL 2022. Milne injured his hamstring in Chennai's first game of the season, against Kolkata Knight Riders. A Sri Lankan pacer, Pathirana picked up seven wickets in four matches in the ICC Under-19 World Cup 2022.

'Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have signed Matheesha Pathirana as a replacement for New Zealand pacer Adam Milne for the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. Milne suffered a hamstring injury in CSK's first match against Kolkata Knight Riders and has been ruled out for the rest of the tournament,' the IPL said in an official release.

Naseem out of action due to shoulder injury

Naseem Shah has been pushed to the sideline after suffering a shoulder injury while playing for Gloucestershire. He bowled only 11 overs against Northamptonshire before walking off the field, and will miss the next game, against Yorkshire. However, Gloucestershire have confirmed his availability for the T20 Blast.

'Following discussions between the medical teams of both Gloucestershire and the Pakistan Cricket Board, it has been decided that a period of workload management is in Naseem's best interest to allow him to get back to full fitness as quickly and safely as possible,' they said.

Mumbai slip to the seventh defeat

Mumbai Indians suffered the seventh defeat of their campaign. This time they failed to defend 156 against Chennai Super Kings.

M.S. Dhoni slammed an unbeaten 28, hitting two fours and a six in the final over, to propel Chennai across the target. Ambati Rayudu top-scored for Chennai with 40, while Daniel Sams picked up four wickets for Mumbai.

Earlier, Tilak Verma's unbeaten half-century guided Mumbai to a par total. Mukesh Choudhary of Chennai was named Player of the Match for his 3-21.
