Australia win first Women's ODI by 9 wickets

Rachael Haynes (93*), Alyssa Healy (77) and Meg Lanning (53*) crushed the Indian bowlers to help Australia Women to a resounding nine-wicket win against India Women to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match ODI series.

In the morning, India Women struggled to post 225/8 after being put in. Mithali Raj top-scored with 61, but took 107 balls to reach there. With 4-33, Darcie Brown was the pick of the Australian bowlers.

Coming to the chase, Haynes and Healy added 126 for the opening wicket to lay the paltofrm.Lanning carried the momentum, and steered Australia reach the target with nine overs to spare. They have now won the record-extending 25 ODI matches on the trot.

Rajasthan beat Punjab in a nail-biting thriller

Kartik Tyagi defended four runs in his final over to help Rajasthan Royals register a two-run win against Punjab Kings in Match 32 of the IPL 2021 in Dubai. He picked up two wickets and conceded a solitary run.

Punjab were chasing a stiff 186, and K.L Rahul and Mayank Agarwal gave the start they required. They needed eight off the last two overs with eight wickets in hand, but Mustafizur Rahman, followed by Tyagi, saw them through.

Earlier in the evening, Mahipal Lomror's 17-ball 43 and Yashasvi Jaiswal's 49 took Rajasthan to 185 after they were asked to bat. Arshdeep Singh returned 5-32 and Mohammed Shami 3-21.

Taliban ban IPL's broadcasting rights in Afghanistan

Afghan cricket fans will not be able to watch the UAE leg of the IPL as the ruling Taliban government has banned the broadcast of the matches in the country. They termed the tournament as 'anti-Islamic'.

The Taliban has also stated the presence of women as cheerleaders and among the watching public in UAE as the reasons for not taking any broadcasting rights in Afghanistan.

Jalal Ahmed Chowdhury dies at 74 

Jalal Ahmed Chowdhury, former Bangladesh coach and a renowned sportswriter, died in Dhaka. He was 74. Chowdhury had been suffering from respiratory problems and was hospitalised for a second time this month, six days earlier. He was put on a ventilator on 18 September, and then passed away.

Chowdhury coached Bangladesh during the 1979 ICC Trophy team, along with Osman Khan. Later, he assisted head coach Gordon Greenidge during the 1997 ICC Trophy.
