IPL: Rohit first to score 1000 runs against a single team

Rohit Sharma created a new IPL record on 23 September. He became the first in the league’s history to aggregate more than 1,000 runs against a single opposition.

Rohit achieved the feat during Match 34 of the IPL 2021, against Kolkata Knight Riders in Abu Dhabi. David Warner occupies the next two places, with 943 runs against Punjab Kings (earlier Kings XI Punjab) and 915 against Kolkata.

But Rohit's 30-ball 33 went in vain, as Kolkata outmuscled Mumbai by seven wickets. They were chasing 156, and Rahul Tripathi (74*) and Venkatesh Iyer (53*) starred with bat to reach the target with 29 balls to spare.

Rutherford to return home after his father’s demise

Sherfane Rutherford, who came as a replacement for Jonny Bairstow in Sunrisers Hyderabad for the remainder of the season, will leave the IPL bio-bubble in the UAE, and return home after his father passed away.

The franchise confirmed Rutherford’s return on Twitter: ‘The #SRH family conveys its heartfelt condolences to Sherfane Rutherford and his family on the passing away of his father. Sherfane will be leaving the IPL bio-bubble to be with his family in this difficult hour.’

Rutherford was in stupendous form with bat in the recently concluded CPL, aggregating 262 runs at a strike rate of 127.

Ireland to play three T20Is against the UAE

Cricket Ireland announced that the Men’s team will play a three-match T20I series against the UAE in Dubai ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup in October. They will also have a warm-up match against Scotland before the series opener.

Cricket Ireland confirmed the series schedule in a statement: They will reach the UAE on 24 September and serve a six-day hotel quarantine before training. They will then play a warm-up match against Scotland on 5 October and the three T20Is against the UAE on 7, 8, and 10 October. The 18-member squad has also been announced.

Ireland squad: Andrew Balbirnie (c), Neil Rock (wk), Mark Adair, Curtis Campher, Gareth Delany, George Dockrell, Shane Getkate, Graham Kennedy, Josh Little, Andrew McBrine, Barry McCarthy, Kevin O'Brien, Simi Singh, Paul Stirling, Harry Tector, Lorcan Tucker, Ben White and Craig Young.

Lanka Premier League to begin 4 December

The second edition of the Lanka Premier League will be played between 4 and 23 December, as confirmed by Sri Lanka Cricket. The franchises are eligible to sign overseas players from 24 September.

The tournament was initially scheduled to take place between 10 July and 22 August, but too many franchise-based cricket leagues around the world forced them to change schedule, as per Ravin Wickramaratne, the director of the tournament.
