COVID-19 hits Delhi Capitals for second time in IPL 2022

Delhi Capitals had to undergo isolation after one of their net bowlers tested positive for COVID-19. Prithvi Shaw, who had to be hospitalised due to high fever, meanwhile tested negative for COVID-19, as did the other players, which allowed their match against Chennai Super Kings to go on as per schedule. Earlier this season, Mitchell Marsh, Tim Seifert, and a few members of the Delhi support staff contracted the Coronavirus.

Root to bat at No. 4, confirms Stokes

England Test captain Ben Stokes has revealed that Joe Root will bat at his preferred batting position of No. 4. Root averages 51.27 at that position, which is almost 12 runs greater than his mark (39.67) when batting at three.

'Wherever Joe bats he gets runs, but his best position is at four. Joe will probably be averaging 90 now instead of 60 (Root's average in 2021), so it'll be good. I feel him at four and me at six gives us a bit of experience in that gap. So you can obviously see where the places are opening up for people to put their hands up, it's three and five,' Stokes said.

Hetmyer to be unavailable for the next few matches

Rajasthan Royals will miss the service of Shimron Hetmyer, who has returned to his home country of Guyana for the birth of his child. Hetmyer has batted brilliantly in the death overs for Rajasthan, scoring 291 runs. His strike rate of 214 between the 17th and 20th over is among the best this season.

'Shimron Hetmyer has travelled back to Guyana early morning today for the imminent birth of his first child, but he’ll be back soon,' tweeted Rajasthan's official handle.

Chennai beat Delhi by 91 runs

Chennai Super Kings beat Delhi Capitals by 91 runs. This was their fourth win at the Indian Premier League 2022. Chasing 209, Delhi were bowled out for 117.

For Chennai, Devon Conway slammed 87 of just 40 balls to propel them to an imposing 208. Moeen Ali then ran through Delhi, picking up 3-3-13, while Mukesh Choudhary and Simarjeet Singh claimed a couple of wickets apiece.
