Sharjah cricket stadium goes through major upgrades

Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) has announced major upgrades for the Sharjah Cricket Stadium ahead of two marquee tournaments the ground will be hosting in upcoming months. As many as 10 matches of the Indian Premier League will be played there, followed by the ICC T20 World Cup 2021.

There has been an increase in the number of both broadcasting and practice pitches. Further, four astro-turf strips have been added so that multiple teams can have practice sessions at a time.

A state-of-art gymnasium with an indoor swimming pool and 11 VIP suites with a dining room is under construction. The IPL 2021 was shifted to the UAE due to a rise in COVID-19 cases in India. The opening match of the UAE leg will be played on 24 September, between Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians.

Seales handed demerit point

Jayden Seales has been found guilty of breaching the ICC code of conduct in the ongoing Test series against Pakistan. Seales has received an official reprimand, and a demerit point has been added against his name.

Seales hurled obscene remarks at Hasan Ali after dismissing the latter in the 70th over. The on-field umpires raised the charge, while match referee Richie Richardson imposed the sanction.

‘In addition to this, one demerit point has been added to the disciplinary record of Seales, for whom it was the first offence in a 24-month period,’ added the ICC.

India finish Day 4 on 181/6, lead by 154

A 100-run stand for the fourth wicket between Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane gave India some control after early setbacks. But they relinquished the advantage by losing three of wickets in the last session. India finished the day on 181/6, and the lead stands at 154 runs.

Neither K.L. Rahul and Rohit Sharma could carry on as in the first innings. Rahul nicked one behind the stumps, while Rohit hooked to deep square leg. Both wickets went to Mark Wood. Sam Curran then had Virat Kohli caught behind to reduce India to 55/3.

Rahane and Pujara steadied the innings, playing out all of the second session together. Just when things were looking in control for India, Pujara was undone by Wood. Rahane too departed soon, and Ravindra Jadeja was beaten through the gate by Moeen Ali.
