Kohli to step down as a T20I captain after World Cup

Virat Kohli will no longer be India’s T20I captain after the T20 World Cup, slated to begin next month in Oman and the UAE. Kohli will continue to lead India in the other two formats.

‘After a lot of contemplation and discussions with my close people, Ravi bhai and also Rohit, who have been an essential part of the leadership group, I’ve decided to step down as the T20 Captain after this T20 World Cup in Dubai in October,’ said Kohli.

The BCCI has not yet confirmed a new T20I captain. However, vice-captain Rohit Sharma is likely to succeed Kohli.

Blundell to miss ODI series versus Pakistan

Tom Blundell will miss the upcoming ODI series versus Pakistan after enduring a left-quad strain. He is replaced by Daryll Mitchell, who was earlier supposed to feature in the T20I series.

Blundell got injured during the fourth T20I against Bangladesh. He missed the subsequent game. New Zealand lost the T20I series by 3-2.

New Zealand will play three ODIs and five T20Is against Pakistan. The ODI series starts on 17 September, and will not be considered as a part of the ICC ODI Super League.

Pant to continue as DC captain

Delhi Capitals have confirmed that Rishabh Pant will continue to lead them in the UAE leg of IPL 2021. Pant led Delhi in the first half of the tournament, in the absence of their regular captain Shreyas Iyer.

Iyer was initially ruled out for the season, but the postponement of the IPL 2021 allowed him to recover in time. Iyer is fully fit and will easily walk into the playing XI.

With six wins in eight matches, the Capitals sit at the top of the points table.

England Women take 1-0 lead

A half-century from Heather Knight, along with crucial contributions from Katherine Brunt and Tammy Beaumont, helped England post 241 on the board. The bowlers then skittle out New Zealand for 211.

Brunt scored 89 off 107 balls, and forged a 65-run partnership with Beaumont (44). She then managed 43 off 51 deliveries before getting bowled by Jess Kerr, who finished with three wickets.

An unbeaten 79 from Amy Satterthwaite was not enough as New Zealand fell 30 runs short of the target. Sophie Devine’s 34 was the next-best score of the innings.
