Garton to join Bangalore

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have fulfilled their quota of eight overseas cricketers by signing George Garton, on Wednesday, 24 August. Garton will replace Kane Richardson, who made himself unavailable for the UAE leg of the IPL.

Garton was a member of the Southern Brave side that won the inaugural edition of The Hundred. He picked up 10 wickets in nine games. He is currently playing for Sussex in the T20 Blast.

Garton joins Dushmantha Chameera as the second left-arm seamer of the squad. Earlier, RCB have also signed Finn Allen and Wanindu Hasaranga. Mike Hesson will be the head coach for the remainder of the league.

Shamsi to join Rajasthan

Tabraiz Shamsi, the top-ranked T20I bowler in the world, will join Rajasthan Royals for the UAE leg of the IPL 2021. Shamsi will replace Andrew Tye. He played four IPL matches in 2016, when RCB roped him as a replacement.

Tye wants to focus on the T20 World Cup next year after failing to make it to Australia's squad this year.

Rajasthan had earlier signed Glenn Phillips after Jos Buttler made himself unavailable for the rest of the tournament. They will also be missing Jofra Archer and Ben Stokes.

Misbah-ul-Haq tests positive for Coronavirus

Misbah-ul-Haq has tested positive for Covid-19, and will undergo mandatory self-isolation of 10 days before flying to Pakistan. He returned positive twice in the RT-PCR test conducted before the departure.

Pakistan won the second Test by 109 runs to level the series by 1-1. Earlier, they won the T20I series 1-0. They will now face New Zealand at home next month.

‘The PCB is constantly in touch with Cricket West Indies who have confirmed that Misbah will be shifted to another hotel for the 10-day quarantine with a medical specialist assigned to look after his health and wellbeing,’ stated the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

England in control after Day 1

An unbeaten 120-run partnership between Rory Burns and Haseeb Hameed helped England take a 42-run lead by the stumps on Day 1. India were earlier bowled out for 78.

James Anderson struck thrice in his opening spell, removing K.L. Rahul, Cheteshwar Pujara and Virat Kohli to reduce India to 21/3. India never recovered from the setback as wickets kept tumbling. Other than Anderson, Craig Overton also finished with three wickets.

The Indian fast bowlers could not do any damage as England walked away unscathed. Burns is batting on 52 and Hameed on 60.
