Cummins named as Australia Men's Test captain

Pat Cummins will succeed Tim Paine as Australia Men's Test captain, as confirmed by Cricket Australia (CA). Steven Smith has been appointed as his deputy. Cummins has been the vice-captain of the side for the last two years. The opening game of the Ashes, scheduled to begin on 8 December in Brisbane, will be his first Test in his new role.

I am honoured to accept this role ahead of what will be a massive Ashes summer. I hope I can provide the same leadership Tim has given the group in the past few years,' said Cummins.

New Zealand finish Day 1 on 129/0

A five-for from Tim Southee, and an unbroken 129-run partnership between Will Young and Tom Latham, helped New Zealand take control of the play. They finished on 129/0, and now trail by 216 runs. Young struck 12 fours in his 75 not out, while Latham is unbeaten on 50.

Earlier, Southee picked a five-for to bowl out India for 345, while Shreyas Iyer scored 105 on Test debut.

Liton, Mushfiqur resurrect Bangladesh innings

Liton Das and Mushfiqur Rahim added an unbroken 204 for the fifth wicket as Bangladesh finished the day on 253/4. Bangladesh were reduced to 49/4, but Das and Rahim held the fort, batting over two sessions to bring their team back in the game. Liton (113) notched his maiden century, while Mushfiqur is on 80.

Netherlands tour of South Africa under doubts

Outbreak of a new Covid-19 outbreak in South Africa has put the Netherlands' ongoing tour of the country in jeopardy. The tour was initially called off after the opening ODI. However, there are no flights available for the Dutch to return home over the weekend.

The first ODI between South Africa and the Netherlands was abandoned after persistent rain. After being put in, South Africa scored 277/8, Kyle Verreynne scoring 95 and Zubayr Hamza 56. The Netherlands could only bat for two overs before rain interrupted play for good.
