Afghanistan beat Namibia by 62 runs

Afghanistan won their second match of the T20 World Cup, defeating Namibia by 62 runs. Namibia were restricted to 98/9 while chasing 161 as Hamid Hassan and Naveen-ul-Haq shared six wickets.

Afghanistan got off a brisk start, thanks to a 53-run opening stand between Hazratullah Zazai (33) and Mohammad Shahzad (45). Asghar Afghan managed 31 in the last game of his career. A late surge from Mohammad Nabi (32 off 17) propelled them to 160/5.

Namibia then lost three wickets inside the Powerplay. Zane Green's dismissal reduced them to 36/4. Barring David Wiese (26 in 30 balls), none of the batters scored more than 20.

Shakib out of T20 World Cup

Shakib Al Hasan has been ruled out of the T20 World Cup 2021 due to a hamstring injury that he sustained while fielding against the West Indies. Bangladesh have decided not to take a replacement. They have lost three successive matches in Super 12.

'In a clinical examination it was diagnosed as an injury of Grade 1 intensity. He is ruled out from participation in the last two matches of the tournament and until further review,' BCB physician Debashish Chowdhury told Cricbuzz.

Philpott passes away at 86

Peter Philpott has passed away, at 86.  A wrist spinner, he played 8 Tests for Australia, and picked up 18 wickets in his debut series against West Indies in 1965. He bid adieu to the game at the early age of 31. Following that, he coached for some prominent teams, including Yorkshire and Surrey.

'Peter Philpott was more than just a wonderful cricketer, he was a man who had a rare enthusiasm for his craft, and for the game of cricket itself,' Richard Freudenstein, Cricket Australia Chairman, stated.

India suffer eight-wicket loss to New Zealand

New Zealand won their first match of the T20 World Cup, thrashing India by eight wickets. Trent Boult took 3-20 and Ish Sodhi 2-17, while Mitchell Santner returned 4-0-15-0, as India managed 110/7 after being put in to bat. Ravindra Jadeja's 26 and Hardik Pandya's 23 were the only innings of note.

New Zealand then lost Martin Guptill in the fourth over, but Daryl Mitchell (49) and Kane Williamson (33*) took the sting off the Indian attack with a 72-run partnership. Jasprit Bumrah (2-19) was the only Indian bowler to leave an impact. Pandya also bowled two overs, conceding 17.
