Deepak Chahar is likely to miss the majority of the Indian Premier League 2022 – or, in worst case, all of it. He sustained a quadricep injury during the third T20I against West Indies last month, and is currently under supervision at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru.

This is a big blow for Chennai Super Kings, who acquired Chahar for a sum of INR 14 crores. Until Chahar, Chennai had never spent over INR 10 crores on any player. He has won two IPL titles with Chennai Super Kings after joining them in 2018.

In four seasons, he has claimed 58 wickets, most of them in Powerplay overs. He has been a crucial cog in Chennai's plans, often playing as the lone seamer amidst a group of spinners on slow, low Chepauk pitches.

Chahar was supposed to open the attack with Adam Milne, and now his absence will pave way for Tushar Deshpande and K.M. Asif.
