ECB wants India to forfeit fifth Test, BCCI says ‘no’ Image

ECB has asked BCCI to forfeit the fifth and final Test between England and India, taking place at Old Trafford in Manchester, after one of India’s coaching staff tested positive for Covid-19. The BCCI, however, said a ‘no’ to the proposition, as per The Times of India.

The BCCI further added they will play the Test if all players test negative in the RT-PCR tests conducted earlier on 10 September.

The BCCI had a discussion with Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma regarding this matter, and they have made their decision clear: ‘Virat and Rohit are learnt to have conveyed that, in absolute clear terms, that Indian team would not forfeit the match even if that meant playing it under Covid cloud.’

During the fourth Test at The Oval, India’s head coach Ravi Shastri, and his fellow support staff – Bharat Arun, R. Sridhar, and Nitin Patel – have tested positive for the virus.

India are currently leading the five-match series 2-1.
