England set a plethora of records in the first ODI, in Amstelveen, to beat Netherlands by 232 runs. Asked to bat, England amassed 498/4, the highest ever score, not only in ODIs but in all List A cricket. The Dutch fought gamely in response. Max O'Dowd got a run-a-ball 55, while wicketkeeper Scott Edwards remained unbeaten on a 55-ball 72, but the target turned out to be enormous. Netherlands collapsed to 266 in the end.
After Shane Snater got his cousin Jason Roy for a single, Phil Salt (122 in 93 balls) and Dawid Malan (125 in 109) registered their respective maiden ODI hundreds, and added 223 in just 169 runs. Jos Buttler joined in the fun as well, slamming 162 not out off a mere 70 balls, while Liam Livingstone got an unbeaten 66 in 22 balls. They got 164 off the last 10 overs.
England went past their own world record of 481/6 against Australia in 2018 as well as Surrey's 496/4 against Gloucestershire in 2007. They hit 26 sixes, once again, improving on their own record of 25. Salt, Malan, and Buttler also registered the third instance of three batters getting hundreds in the same ODI team innings.
