The Pakistan Cricket Board announced on Tuesday that England will play seven T20 Internationals in Karachi and Lahore from September 20 to October 2 in what will be their first trip to the nation in 17 years.
The first four games of the series will be played on September 20 in Karachi between the two teams before the action moves to Lahore for the final three T20Is.
The three Test matches will follow the ICC Men's T20 World Cup Australia 2022. The seven T20 Internationals will make up the first phase of England's tour of Pakistan.
To prepare for this year's ICC Men's T20 World Cup in October-November, both teams will need to win the limited-overs series. The top two sides in the current ICC Men's T20I Team Rankings are England and Pakistan, who are also among the favourites to win the major competition later this year in Australia.
The T20I series will serve as the opening phase of England's visit before they head back for a Test series in December following the T20 World Cup. The three games might have a significant impact on the World Test Championship, particularly for Pakistan, which is competing for a top-two finish in the standings.
The lengthy international season for Pakistan will begin with the T20I series against the second-place team. Pakistan will host New Zealand twice (in December/January for two Tests and three ODIs, and then in April for five ODIs and five T20Is), West Indies for three T20Is in late January, and then the 50-over ACC Asia Cup after its matches against England in September and December.
In due order, the England Test series schedule as well as the New Zealand and West Indies series schedules will be released.
International Cricket PCB Director Zakir Khan stated, "As the prelude to a hectic and thrilling domestic international schedule, we officially announce that we will welcome England for seven T20 Internationals in Karachi and Lahore. As one of the best T20I sides, England's participation in the shorter format before to the ICC Men's T20 World Cup in Pakistan would not only assist team management in completing their preparations but also serve as a prelude to the three-Test series in December."
