England claimed five second-innings wickets by stumps on Day 3 of the third Test match against New Zealand, at Headingley. New Zealand now lead by 137. At the crease are Daryl Mitchell (4*) and Tom Blundell (5*), two men who have lifted New Zealand throughout the series, including a 120-run stand in the first innings. With Michael Bracewell and the tail to follow, New Zealand should eye a lead of at least 250 to challenge a threatening England line-up.

Having conceded a 31-run lead, New Zealand lost Will Young early, caught at slip off Matthew Potts (2-20). Tom Latham (76) and Kane Williamson (48) then added 97 for the second wicket before debutant Jamie Overton (1-34) had Latham caught at slip. Joe Root (1-7) had Devon Conway caught at bat-pad, while Potts had Williamson caught at slip and Henry Nicholls (7) hit one back to Jack Leach (1-25).

Earlier, Jonny Bairstow (162 in 157 balls) and Overton (97) added another 32 to take their partnership to 241. Trent Boult (4-104) had Overton caught at slip three short of a hundred on Test debut before Bairstow and Stuart Broad (42 in 36) added 55 in 45 balls. Tim Southee (3-100) struck twice to bring the England innings to an end. England got 360 after being reduced to 55/6 at one point.
