Let us have a look at how each of the England players fared in the three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka.

Joe Root 9 (M 3, R 147, Ave -, SR 85)

With an aggregate total of 147 runs, Root enjoyed his limited-overs’ return by finishing as the leading run-scorer. He anchored England’s chases in the first two games with 87-ball 79 and 87-ball 68, both not out.

Chris Woakes 7.5 (M 2, W 6, Ave 7.66, ER 2.30)

Despite missing out on the final game, Woakes finished just behind Willey in the wicket-takers’ list, with six scalps at an average of 7.66. His economy rate was 2.3, thanks to his magnificent figures of 10-5-18-4 in the first match.

Sam Curran 7 (M 3, W 5, Ave 24.6, R 9, Ave -)

Curran, England’s rising star, had another impressive outing against Sri Lanka in both limited-overs’ series. He picked up 5 wickets at under 25, and hit the winning four in the opening match.

Eoin Morgan 6.5 (M 3, R 81, Ave 81, SR 81)

Morgan had been out of form for long before contributing with 75 not out in an unbeaten 140-run stand with Root for the third wicket to take England home.

Jonny Bairstow 6 (M 3, R 72, Ave 36, SR 126.31, C 5, St 1)

Bairstow scored 43 in 21 balls 29 in 36 in two innings. He held five matches and effected a stumping.

Moeen Ali 5.5 (M 3, R 28, Ave 28, W 1, Ave 5)

By hitting 28 in 57, Moeen had an important stand with Root in the chase in the first match after England were reduced to 80/4. He also bowled two overs and got a wicket.

Jason Roy 5 (M 2, R 60, Ave 60, SR 115)

Roy replaced Livingstone for the last two games. He showed his range with 52-ball 60 in one but did not get the chance in the other.

Tom Curran 4 (M 2, W 4, Ave 19.5, ER 3.9)

Tom Curran had an ordinary outing in the second game but hit back in the third with the figures of 4-35.

Mark Wood 3 (M 2, W 0, ER 3.17)

Wood was impressive in his two games but remained wicketless after bowling 17 overs.

Liam Livingstone 2 (M 1, R 9, Ave 9)

Coming to open, Livingstone made only 9 in the first match. Despite an impressive outing in the T20Is, that one failure saw him being sidelined for the rest of the series.

Adil Rashid 1.5 (M 3, W 1, Ave 130, ER 5.41)

Rashid was uncharacteristically unimpressive. He bowled 24 overs and got one wicket, conceding 130. His economy rate of 5.41 was the most expensive for England.

Sam Billings 1 (M 3, R 3, Ave 3)

Billings came to bat once and only managed three runs.
