According to a PTI report, former India captain MS Dhoni, who hasn’t been a part of India’s limited-overs team ever since the 2019 World Cup, will decide his future after next year’s Indian Premier League.

Dhoni hasn’t featured in the Indian squad during the tour of West Indies followed by the home series against South Africa and Bangladesh as well.

“If at all MS will take a call on his future, it will only be after the IPL. You can’t stop speculation as he is such a big player. He is in the best shape possible fitness-wise and has been training hard for the last month,” a source told PTI.

“However the number of competitive games he will play before the IPL will be decided in due course,” he added.

The 38-year-old will also sit out of the three-match T20I and ODI home series against West Indies starting on December 6.

MSK Prasad, National Selection Committee’s Chairman, has also made his intention clear that they are “moving on” from Dhoni and are looking to hone youngsters like Rishabh Pant keeping the T20 World Cup in Australia next year in mind.

Dhoni, however, is yet to come up with any statement on his future. He was, in fact, seen training with Jharkhand’s U23 team in Ranchi some days back.

Even though his batting abilities have waned a bit, Dhoni is still fit as an athlete. He has led India to two World titles. India won the World T20 in 2007 and ODI World Cup in 2011 under his leadership. They also won the Championship Trophy in 2013 under his tenure as captain.
