Kyle Coetzer, a former captain of Scotland, announced his immediate retirement from Twenty20 cricket on Thursday.

After an ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 tri-series match against the UAE, Coetzer recently announced his resignation as captain. Richie Berrington replaced the 38-year-old.

Scotland was led by Coetzer, the ICC Men's Associate Cricketer of the Decade, in the 2021 ICC Men's T20 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates and Oman.

After careful consideration, the squad would benefit more from having a different player compete in the upcoming T20 matches and the ensuing T20 World Cup, according to Coetzer.

"It was an honour to represent my nation and play a key role in Scotland's World Cup qualification in the previous tournament. It served as a strong motivator for me to keep supporting the club in any manner I could "Added he.

The veteran continued by saying that he was looking forward to having more time to spend with his family after he retired from T20I.

"Personally, I'm looking forward to having a little more time to spend with my family, which includes two young children, as well as focusing on and having more time for my coaching career. But in the end, it comes down to what is best for the team's future course "says he.

Coetzer participated in 70 T20Is for Scotland, amassing 1495 runs and six fifty-pluses. In 41 of those matches, he captained Scotland and amassed 20 victories.

Only the upcoming home one-off ODI against New Zealand will he be available. Additionally, Scotland will host New Zealand for two Twenty20 Internationals. They unveiled an 18-person roster for the series, which gets underway on July 27 with the T20Is. All the matches will be played in Edinburgh.
