Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly, who is set to become the new BCCI president, after he was uncontested in the elections, admitted that the biggest challenge for him would be to look after the ‘conflict of interest’ in the BCCI and that he ‘would look into the matter with all seriousness.’

Speaking to reporters on Monday, Ganguly mentioned how handling the ‘biggest organization’ in the cricketing world was not going to easy, but stated that captaining India was tougher.

“Cricketers are a part of the system but the numbers were not that much in the past. Conflict of Interest is an issue and I am not sure whether we will get the best cricketers. It really needs to be looked at. NCA, CAC, appointment of coaches… there has been an issue with everything,” said Ganguly.

“Captaining India was a lot more challenging. BCCI president will be a different challenge.”

“The house (BCCI) needs to be set in order. No politician has been in touch with me. I thank Mamata didi (West Bengal Chief Minister) and I am very happy to get support. I have not received any money – talks, and discussions,” Ganguly told reporters.

“I am happy with the appointment because this is the time when BCCI’s image has got hampered and it’s a great opportunity for me to do something. Whether you are elected unopposed or otherwise, it’s a big responsibility because it is the biggest organization in the world of cricket. India is a powerhouse. It will be a challenge,” Ganguly said after his name was finalized in an informal meeting of BCCI state units.

The president of the Cricket Association on Bengal, Ganguly has impressed with his skills as an administrator, but sorting the mess that BCCI is in will be no easy task.
