Cricket Australia on Monday announced its squad for the much-anticipated ICC World Test Championship (WTC) Final 2025, with all-rounder Cameron Green and young batter Jake Fraser-McGurk missing out, while Pat Cummins continues to lead the side.
The selectors have shown faith in the core unit that brought Australia the WTC title in 2023, with a few strategic inclusions ahead of the marquee clash. The final, scheduled to be played at Lord’s in June, will see Australia take on India for the second consecutive time in a WTC summit clash.
The major inclusion is Cameron Green, the uncapped all-rounder, alongside Theo Konstas, a promising young batsman who has impressed with consistent domestic performances. Their selection underscores Australia's focus on nurturing new talent while maintaining a stable core team structure.
Veteran pacers Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood retain their spots, with Nathan Lyon spearheading the spin department. Steve Smith, Marnus Labuschagne, and David Warner form the backbone of the batting lineup, while Alex Carey will take up wicketkeeping duties.
Selector George Bailey, while speaking to the media, emphasised the importance of continuity and adaptability. “The conditions in England require a well-rounded squad. We’ve picked a group that blends experience with emerging talent,” Bailey said.
Full Squad:
Pat Cummins (Captain), Steve Smith (Vice-Captain), David Warner, Marnus Labuschagne, Usman Khawaja, Travis Head, Cameron Green, Mitchell Marsh, Alex Carey (Wk), Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, Nathan Lyon, Chris Green, Theo Konstas, Scott Boland.
The final squad for the match day will be decided closer to the date, depending on conditions and form. Australia, currently in top form across formats, will look to defend their WTC crown with a balanced mix of veterans and fresh faces.
The WTC Final is slated to begin in the second week of June 2025, and both sides are expected to arrive in England by the end of May for acclimatisation and warm-up fixtures.
